Our History

Firefighter Championships, previously known as Demonstrations began in the latter part of the 19th Century between Volunteer Brigades and Insurance Brigades in metropolitan Sydney.

Regional towns and cities who were independent organisations funded by Local Government and Insurance Companies conducted ‘Demos’ in the 1890’s up until 1909. Some of the hosts were Bathurst, Goulburn, Dubbo, Forbes, Stockton and Corowa who hosted the last of these Demonstrations in 1909.

The NSWFB was formed in 1910 but it wasn’t until 1931 at a meeting of the ‘Southern Brigades’ at Junee that it was decided that the NSWFB would conduct ‘Demos’, the first of which was held at Wagga in 1932.
